Overview

Helping Aerocomposites Take Flight
Our lightweight nonwovens feature extensively in both primary and secondary composite aerostructures and often fulfil more than one function. They are suitable for both thermoset and thermoplastic systems, acting as a carrier substrate for adhesives or fragile materials, providing a superior surface finish, imparting functionality such as EMI shielding and electrical conductivity, as well as enhancing fracture toughness or resin flow.

Applications

Multiple benefits from using a single material

Aerostructures

Our dielectric nonwovens provide an extremely uniform, lightweight and easy to incorporate barrier to prevent the occurrence of galvanic corrosion in aircraft components.

Aerostructures

Our nonwovens are used in resin infusion processes in aerocomposites to improve resin flow during manufacture, enabling a higher part throughput and lower defect rate.

Aerostructures

The integrity and durability of aerocomposites can be improved by the addition of our thermoplastic veils, reducing crack formation and propagation when the component is under pressure.

Aircraft Engines

Our Tecnofire® fire protection materials deliver the required fire protection to aircraft engines without the toxicity, structural compromises or time consuming application associated with alternative technologies like additives or paints.

Aircraft Interiors

Used in non-critical components such as aircraft interiors, our recycled veils can enhance the surface finish with the added benefit of sustainability.

Avionics

Our metal coated nonwovens are used to shield flight avionics from electromagnetic interference which could compromise aircraft operation and safety.

Primary and Secondary Aerostructures

A lightweight carrier substrate for adhesive films which is used in the fabrication of composite aircraft. Our veils are also used as a support for manufacturing techniques involving fragile materials such as tailored fibre placement.

Surface Finish

Our surfacing veils provide a high quality, resin rich surface finish to both interior and exterior composite components with a minimum weight addition. Incorporated as a surfacing layer in a composite part, or as part of a surfacing film, the veils minimise the problem of print through, pin holes and voids and reduce the amount of further processing required.
